Founder

Delores King is a three-time breast cancer survivor, an advocate, a veteran, and a photographer. She is also a co-author of The Breast is Yet to Come, a powerful anthology featuring the voices of women of color facing breast cancer with resilience and strength.

Delores was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014. That diagnosis marked the beginning of a journey that tested her strength, reshaped her identity, and awakened a deeper calling. As she navigated treatment and the emotional weight of survivorship, she turned to photography to cope, heal, and express what words often couldn’t capture. Behind the camera, she found space to process her pain, reclaim her sense of self, and connect with others walking a similar path.

Out of her personal experiences and survivorship, Livin’ Through the Lenz was born. Founded in 2022, the nonprofit provides a safe space for women of color to tell their stories, reclaim their identity, empower and advocate for themselves, and connect with a supportive community. She is deeply committed to uplifting Black and Brown breast cancer survivors through photo-based therapy, creative expression, and visual storytelling.

Livin’ Through the Lenz has been recognized by several organizations, including Density Matters, Northwestern University, and Pink Meets Purple. In 2024, the organization hosted Celebration of Strength, an event that honors survivors and provides a platform for healing, reflection, and empowerment through the arts.

Delores was also featured in the televised series Conversation in Pink, which highlights the stories and strength of women of color breast cancer survivors. She has spoken at numerous community events and organizational gatherings, sharing her personal journey and the mission of Livin’ Through the Lenz to inspire, uplift, and educate others.

“Photography is my gateway to healing, through storytelling and powerful images. When words fall short, it becomes my voice. It allows me to share my story, speak my truth, and connect with others through the power of visual storytelling.”
