Inspiration and Wisdom from Mrs. Adams a Two-time Breast Cancer Survivor

Updated: Apr 29, 2025

Hello, survivors and Supporters,

On October 6th, I was honored to attend the Paint the Church Pink event hosted by Peer Plus. It was a truly inspiring and motivational experience filled with powerful stories of resilience.

One of the most impactful moments for me was meeting Ms. Adams, a 90-year-old, two-time breast cancer survivor. Our conversation was both eye-opening and deeply moving as we discussed the challenges Black women face in battling breast cancer, including feeling unseen and unheard due to the disparities in our healthcare system. Despite these challenges, Ms. Adams' strength and perseverance are truly remarkable.

She also shared an important lesson from her journey. After surviving breast cancer in her 40s, Ms. Adams was told by her oncologist that after turning 75, she no longer needed to worry about breast cancer. However, during a routine visit, her primary doctor insisted on a mammogram, even though she believed she was beyond the risk. Reluctantly, she agreed, and at 80, she was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time.

Her story serves as a powerful reminder: breast cancer can occur at any age, and staying vigilant with our health is essential. Ms. Adams' experience highlights the importance of being proactive, even when we think we're no longer at risk.

Thank you to Peer Plus for hosting such an impactful event and to Ms. Adams for sharing her inspiring story. Her journey is a testament to the strength of survivors and the need for continued awareness.

With gratitude,
